Always check your rating assessment

 

WISEMAN COMMERCIAL were recently reminded of the need for clients to be vigilant when receiving revised business rate assessments.

The national re-valuation of business rate assessments in April 2017 involved some new methodology and software systems for Rateable Value calculation which weren’t without glitches.

Contacted by a local company in March 2018 we visited, inspected and accurately measured their small office and workshop premises, keen to see why their Rateable Value had inexplicably  increased from £18,250 to £29,250  in the new rating list.

The answer was a combination of incorrect property type classification, incorrect measurement, and computational errors in the new assessment.

After a ‘check and challenge’ process by Wiseman Commercial the Rateable Value was corrected from £29,250 to £17,250, saving the client a considerable sum in business rates payments over the period of the list.
